If you like to eat and drink, then Savannah is the place for you. One of the few cities that will let you take your drink “To Go” while you sight-see and make your way around town, there are several national and local places on Broughton Street to grab a bite for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Here are some of the local favorites on Historic Broughton Street:
Corleone’s Trattoria offers traditional
Italian cuisine in a cozy setting, along
with a few tables for outside dining.
For you late nighters, Taco Abajo is open
until midnight Sunday through Wednesday
and until 3am Thursday through Saturday.
Order up some tacos, burritos, salads or
specialties while you hang out and play pool or foosball, or stay for the live music.
Papillote brings a little bit of Paris to
downtown Savannah with only the
freshest ingredients; the menu varies depending on what is fresh and in
season (and what the Chef is in the
mood to prepare). Perfect to grab and
go for a lunch in one of Savannah’s
A local favorite for salads, sandwiches,
and voted “Best Tacos,” Kayak Kafe is a
casual café that offers healthy choices using only the freshest ingredients.
A few outdoor tables provide seating for some of the best people watching in town. Also open for dinner, if you’re a healthy eater, you won’t want to pass them by.
If you’re a tea lover,
The Tea Room serves afternoon
tea complete with finger
sandwiches, scones, and a
sample of dessert items.
They also offer a selection of
loose teas imported from around
the world along with other fun
For dessert head on over to Leopold’s Ice Cream, but make sure you’re there early – there’s usually a line during the weekend evenings. Founded in 1919, the original Leopold’s located on the corner of Gwinnett and Habersham, was quite the happening hot spot, but closed in 1969. After pursuing a career in Hollywood, Stratton Leopold returned to Savannah and opened the current location on Broughton Street and even has the original black marble soda fountain.
If you’re looking for something quick
easy (and affordable), wander just a
little further down Broughton to Juarez
Mexican Restaurant. With daily lunch
and dinner specials, Juarez offers fast
and friendly service; no wonder it’s
another local favorite.
There are several national chains to choose from as well, and if you're looking for a place to cool down, stop by any of the yogurt or smoothie places for a cold treat.
No matter where you decide to go, remember, if you get your drink “To Go,” be sure it’s in a plastic or Styrofoam cup as you can be ticketed for having an open can or bottle.
